Cannot connect to a 32 character ssid using 8260 or 7260

Am using the latest driver on a 8260AC (ver 19.1.0.4).

When trying to connect to a SSID of 30 or 31 characters it seems to connect.  Using a SSID of 32 characters does not.

I have run Wireshark captures using an AirPCAP adapter and have verified that the card is generating probe requests for 30 and 31 characters, but not 32.

I have verified this issue on several laptops in the office.

Another coworker verified the following on the 7260:

"I had the 17.0.5.8 driver from 6/18/2014 and my system was working. I updated to 18.33.3.2 (the latest) and could not connect to the Device. I then moved to the driver 18.21.0.2 from 11/9/2015 which would not work. I also tried 17.16.0.4 from 4/20/2015 which also worked."

Could this be a off by one error in the driver preventing probe requests from going out?

I should also mention that this is a non-broadcast SSID, so am creating a profile with the specified SSID and manually connecting.

Thank you,

Steve

Intel’s Windows 7 Bluetooth Software Update Failed to install on my Computer.

I have a X1 carbon gen 4 with an Intel 8260 wireless chip.  I am using windows 7 x64 professional.

I followed the instructions provided by Intel to replace my Bluetooth driver.

Intel’s Windows 7 Bluetooth functionality and Microsoft’s KB3161608, Software Update available

  1. Uninstall the Microsoft KB 3161608/3172605. (Skip this step if the KB is not installed)
  2. Uninstall any version of Intel Bluetooth driver.

    3.  Download Intel Bluetooth® driver for Windows 7* (19.00.1629)

    4.  Install the new Intel Bluetooth driver.

    5.  Re-install the Microsoft KB as needed.

I could not get step two to work with Intel Proweireless Driver 19.1.0 installed.  In order to get the new Bluetooth driver to install, I had to roll back the Intel Prowireless Driver to version 18.40.2.  I did this by using my imaging software to reload the operating system with the older version of the Prowireless software.  With version 18.40.2 of the Prowireless driver installed, I was able to use the Intel Bluetooth Driver Install Instructions and get step two to work.  Once the Bluetooth driver was updated, I reinstalled Prowireless driver 19.1.0.

Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 constantly loses connection for a split second

Hello!

After searching the internet for 3 days straight, trying atleast 100 different solutions, I'll just open a ticket here and hope, somebody has a clue how to solve this problem.

While I am gaming the adapter, stated above, loses connection for a split second, then reconnects, which is enough to throw me out of the game. It jumps between best signal and no signal, while I am not moving.

My System:

Medion ERAZER Notebook

Windows 10 Home 64 bit

Intel i7 6500U

8GB Ram

What I have tried so far: (Sorry if the words aren't correct, I'm german.)

  • Installing the newest driver
  • reinstalling the driver
  • configuring the adapter settings (HT Mode: VHT / HT / Disabled,  all tested. | Preffer 2,4Ghz, use 20 Mhz, Roaming to low, Transferpower to full...)
  • Turning the Wireless Zero Configuration Service on/off
  • Disabling Bluetooth
  • Resetting the WinSock thing
  • Slamming my head against the wall
  • turning my antivirus off.
  • turning the firewall off.
  • Updating the Chipset drivers
  • Restarting the laptop of course
  • Etc

It is not the fault of the router / modem / w.e. it is in english. As my mobile phone, aswell as the laptop of my girlfriend are connecting without a problem to it.

Thanks!

Why does Wireless N 7260+BT with Windows 10 Pro x64 degrade internet browser performance?

$

My computer demonstrates several serious bugs in Windows 10 Pro x64  networking performance.  It is one of my  goof around computers that I have reset using recovery tools or system images on multiple occassions when performance degrades.:  The key hardware and software is:

--- Intel Next Unit Of Computing box, Model DC3217BY

--- Intel Core i3-3217U CPU @ 1.80 GHz

--- Intel N-7260 WI-FI / Bluetoothmodule (BT driver

WiFi driver ver  18.33.3.2   (provider Intel, signer Microsoft WHPC)

BT driver ver 19.1621.3340   (provider Intel, signer Microsoft WHCP))

--- Crucial M-SATA SSD drive

---  Corsair 4 GB DDR3 16000 memory (wrong slot)

--- logitech bluetooth K480 keyboard

--- logitech bluetooth M557 mouse

--- bluetooth headset or soundbar

--- Microsoft Windows 10 Pro x64

        Version 1511, build 10586.494

Internet performance, as measured by the Ookla speedtest download metric, ALWAYS degrades when bluetoooth devices are connected and continues to degrade as bluetooth devices are used.  This degradaton seems more rapid when high data rate (e.g. headsets) are used.  Rebooting does not noticably improve performance.  However, when we UNPAIR every bluetooth device and REBOOT the problem is cleared and the computer performs normally until bluetooth devices are connected again.

Initially the downloadspeed test is >40 Mbps (ISP limited).  I can also rapidly load multiple tabs using EDGE, EXPLORER and CHROME simultaneously as expected and youtube streams great.  Unfortunately, this does not last long after pairing bluetooth devices.  Within a matter of hours and a few dozen websites visited, WINDOWS 10 PRO FAILS BADLY in the following manner.

--- Ookla speedtest drops to about 20 Mbps immediately after first bluetooth device is connected.

--- After a few hours use, the Internet browsers take long time when opening additional tabs or opening first tab in a second browser.  Quite often the tabs do not load at all.

--- Ookla speedtest continues to report less than 2 Mbps in first browser tab opened after reboot.

--- Ookla speedtest either fails to load or gives results well below 1 Mbps when run in browser tab #2 and higher, especially when youtube is first tab.

--- youtube streaming cannot keep up and often fails outright.

--- sometimes, task manager shows 100% disk activity for several minutes and millions of page faults without significant data transfer rates.

--- occasional temporary system freeze upwards of 20 seconds,  some freezes that require short power button for controlled shutdown, some freezes that require long power button for hard off.

--- several different BSOD reasons displayed

I really cannot understand why Internet degrades so badly over such a short time.  It works great initially.  The Internet Troubleshooter does not report any problem no matter how bad the browsers perform.  Windows update says I have all the patches.  Internet search offered procedures to clear DNS and IP stacks, but those did not improve anything.

With the native Microsoft wireless client I've noticed one can select,

- User Authentication

- Computer Authentication

- User or Computer Authentication

when configuring 801.X.

See screenshot below,

But, iterating through a similar profile setup in Intel PROSet Wireless software i've noticed (or perhaps given the UI layout.. it seems like), selecting an option of USER or COMPUTER authentication is not present ?

It's purely only User Authentication ?

Please Help With Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165

Hello,

So I am have been scouring the internet and troubleshooting my wireless adapter for about a week now, and I still am unable to get it working.

I am unable to activate the Wi-Fi on my laptop, which is a week old Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series. The Wi-Fi key on the keyboard does not enable it. Neither does toggling the Wi-Fi switch in Network settings: I click to turn it on, and it attempts to toggle On before it reverts to the Off state. I have gone into Network Connections, which contains the icons for the Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections, and it shows that the Wi-Fi is enabled (the Icon is in color, as opposed to being greyed out when off; and right clicking it gives me the option of disabling it, so it must be enabled). Still, when I right-click and select to Connect, it does not. Selecting to Diagnose it yields a message for the following problem: "Wireless capability is turned off." But the previous courses of action are unable to turn on the wireless capability. I have also gone into Device Manager and updated the drivers, as well as disabled and re-enabled the adapter from there.

I have also gone into the command prompt, and the command netsh interface show interface displays that Wi-Fi is disconnected. I have subsequently attempted to enable Wi-Fi with the following command: netsh interface set interface Wi-Fi enabled. The output: "This network connection does not exist."

If any one can please help with troubleshooting this matter, I would forever be grateful.

This problem originated exactly one week ago. I dual-booted my Windows 10 laptop with Ubuntu 14.04. After a bit of setbacks, I was able to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 10, but I was unable to use Wi-Fi in Ubuntu, although I was able to use it in Windows. In my attempt to address the Wi-Fi issue in Ubuntu, I tried to update the kernel, but it unsuccessfully installed. Some more troubleshooting ensued, and before I knew it, Wi-Fi was not working in Windows as well. I ended up recovering the entire system so that I can reinstall Ubuntu, but Wi-Fi still is not working, even after this factory reset.

Again, I would appreciate anyone's time and help in resolving this matter.

ac8260 Extremely slow speed over wifi on a specific network

Hello,

Here's my issue. My wifi works fine everywhere except at the university. It connects just fine, signal is great and everything seems fine for like a minute, but then it becomes painfully slow. Everyone around me are browsing at decent speed while its unusable for me. I talked to the IT guys at school and they said many people with the same wireless cards are experiencing issues on their network.

I tried:

-changing the drivers, old and new. 18.xx 19.xx

-changing the power options in windows

-changing pretty much all the device settings(roaming agressiveness, prefered band, wireless mode, ht etc)

-InSSider shows that everything is fine

Any ideas? How can I diagnose the problem?

Can someone who has sound technical knowledge or work around this help me ?

Good morning, Hello, i am Nathalie, From France !

Since i have updated my ASUS laptop to Windows 10 (was on Windows 7), i can't get a stable connection of my Wifi.

i can see networks available, on my request it is connecting for 5 seconds max, then disconnecting automatically. same if i am on battery or on power supply.

All is working fine with Ethernet cable.

I have followed all recommendations linked to battery savings (disable + full performance ) etc... no success.

I have an Intel Centrino N2230 network adapter:

Fabricant : Intel Corporation

Description : Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230

Version du pilote : 15.18.0.1

Adresse physique : 68-5D-43-71-F1-B5

i have tried to update to the latest driver, but i feel the installation is incomplete, here is one of the messages in the network adapter events log :

I am not an expert, but i think i understand basics, your help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Have a good day,

AC - 8260 - Connectivity Issues

$
0
0

I have a 2 week old laptop with a an 8260 adapter which has caused me nothing but stress from day 1. I suspect this is driver related and hope it will be resolved, but wanted to post here to give some visibility to this as the adapter is still relatively new. I haven't been able to pickup on what causes the issue, at times it seems as though after periods of extended sleep it will happen. I've also noticed it happens more on battery but I've also had it happen while plugged in. The adapter may work fine for several hours, then suddenly starts dropping connectivity even though it has been in the same location all along.

Scenario 1:

  • During browsing, my browser will return a DNS error however my wifi connectivity icon shows full bars. Checking the network adapter shows that it has been disabled on its own. Attempting to re-enable it fails as it says enabling then reverts back to disabled. Eventually, after 3-5 minutes connectivity may be restored but it will continue to lose connectivity every 5 minutes or so until I reboot.  Once the adapter goes into this "poor reception state", it will drop connectivity regularly until I restart.

Scenario 2:

  • Randomly, the WiFi icon will suddenly show an exclamation mark next to the Wifi icon. The adapter also shows disabled and wont re-enable in network settings. In this scenario, wifi does not restore until I reboot the machine.

Some details:

I am using Intel Dual Band AC-8260 adapter running windows 10 on Skylake Architechture.

Using the latest 18.0.33 Drivers

I have tried this workaround, but the behavior still seems to persist again at random times (Power Saving = Maximum Performance).

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/928152

Here are some of the events that I see being logged regularly when the adapter starts misbehaving:

********

WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped.

Module Path: C:\Windows\System32\IWMSSvc.dll

*******

WLAN AutoConfig detected limit connectivity, performing Reset/Recover.adapter.

AC3165 problem with bluetooth on win7

Hi there,

I'm struggling with making my bluetooth to work properly on windows 7 64bit.

I have tried installing several different drivers from intel website but non of them solved the problem.

Basically I can use my bluetooth to play music through bluetooth speakers or headphones.

The problem is that I can't recive any files from any device. I can send files but can't recive any.

When I reboot my laptop I can recive files for a minute, then it stops working and the only way to make it work again is reboot, but then again it stops working after a minute.

All the services are running. I tried ticking and unticking the boxes that allow windows to turn off device automaticaly to save power.

Nothing helps.

Funny thing is that when I uninstall drivers completely and bluetooth runs on some windows stock drivers (windows generic device) I can send and recive files as much as I want but can't listen to the music via bluetooth.

I'm just so sick of it right now.

Please, please help!!!

NUC D54250WYK/7260HMW why is 802.11n range so short ?

$

As my early post on 2/1/2014 pointed out, ever since first assembling this NUC with a Intel Wireless-AC 7260HMW, its connection range at 2.4GHz has been very short, so much so, unable to connect to either of the medium distance 2.4GHz APs (4m away thru 1 floor, 1 or 2 walls of a flat block) at either of the 2 locations I live at, yet my Nexus 5 smartphone next to the NUC, connects solid to either AP, as did a Toshiba L850 1D5 laptop with Atheros WiFi card, connects without problem. In 2014 my then 7 year old laptop with old Intel 3945 Wifi-G slightly better than NUC.  As a result, I have NEVER been able to use my NUC WiFi for direct internet connection.

The IMEX connections to the 2 antenna fit well.  Intel Proset in the NUC still shows TX power 100% 32mW.

Heard others experienced same problem on NUCs.  Can you advise the Rx sensitivity of the 7260HMW and what gain (dBi) the D54250WYK internal antenna have ?

I had wondered if the range would be improved by fitting external antenna ? I see external antenna advertised upto 15dBi. Is there any recommended max dBi gain for the external antenna ?.

I find it mystifying a Nexus 5 smartphone with far smaller antenna than NUC, has far better range.  Why should that be ?

If after testing, external antenna found to have surplus gain, If its feasable, I want to fix the RP-SMA bulkhead connectors in a good location on the NUC case.   Have others found a good location ?  If SMA too big, what about fitting a pair of IMEX bulkhead sockets ?   ..of course that will add more signal loss.

I wondered if a new driver may fix issue or the mentions of revised 7260 card, but did not find other posts on this forum specifically addressing this issue.

Thank you.
