On the AC 3160 I seem to be capped at 150 mbps.
On my other laptop with a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 i can reach speeds up to 300mbps
with my current router settings.

Router settings

  • Model n300 wnr2000v3
  • 2(P) + 6(S) channel
  • Mode Up to 300 Mbps

Advanced settings

  • 802.11n channel width for band 2.4 auto
  • 802.11n channel width for band 5.2 auto
  • ad hoc channel 802.11b/g value 1
  • ad hoc qos mode wmm disabled
  • ARP offload  Enabled
  • Bluetooth AMP enabled
  • HT Mode VHT Mode
  • Mixed mode protection CTS-to-self Enabled
  • Preferred band no preference
  • roaming aggressiveness    medium
  • transmit power highest
  • wireless mode 802.11a/b/g
  • There is no 802.11n Mode in the advanced settings (is this part of the problem/should their be

One answer for my question might be the trx streams
The AC-3160 is listed as only have tx/rx stream of 1x1
The advanced-N 6200 is listed as having tx/rx of 2x2

If I understand this correctly im guessing the ac-3160 cant combine the two streams on a 2.4 ghz band at 40mhz channel.
What are my options? Is the only option to buy a router capable of 5ghz band to achieve the same speeds as the laptop with the 2x2 wireless card?
